The St. Bethlehem community was originally known as Cherry Station, named for the Cherry family who owned the land adjacent to the railroad. Miss Mary Cherry ran a private school in her home at Cherry Station. At this time in home private schools were considered forerunners of public schools in Montgomery County.

St. Bethlehem’s first public school began in the early 1900s as a modest two room public school perched atop a hill along what is now Old Russellville Pike, serving the small Cherry Station community. Since the mid 1930s, the building has continued to expand in order to accommodate rising student enrollment. In 1966, the old building was torn down and the main building we use today was built in its place. Since then, this building has served students in the community from Pre-k up to Junior High with an expansion taking place in 1987.  In most recent years, it has hosted grades Pre K through 2 for over 500 students in what was known as St. Bethlehem Elementary.

As part of the Clarksville Montgomery County School System’s rezoning and strategic redesign, the elementary school was officially repurposed as the district’s first dedicated Early Learning Center beginning with the 2024–2025 school year. The building’s central location and its well scaled layout made it an ideal “hub” for a new hub and spoke Pre K model, consolidating multiple Pre K classrooms into one facility while offering satellite programs elsewhere to serve families further away.

Today, the historic facility continues to serve the St. Bethlehem community—this time nurturing Montgomery County's youngest learners, within classrooms thoughtfully adapted for early learning.
